さて、明日はいよいよ着陸です。ただ、やはりケネディ宇宙センター(フロリダ)とエドワーズ空軍基地(カルフォルニア)の天気が芳しくないようです。ホワイトサンズ試験場(ニューメキシコ)の天気は良好。日程に余裕がないため、飛行規程に従ってミッションを延長せずホワイトサンズへの着陸が選ばれる可能性が大ですね。~

さて、このホワイトサンズ試験場。1982年のSTS-3以来24年間、シャトルの着陸には一度も使われていません。もちろんパイロットは着陸訓練をつんでいますし、最低限必要な施設は整っていますから着陸は可能です。ただ昨日のエントリでも書いたように着陸後の整備やケネディ宇宙センターへの回航などの点でかなり不便なようです。もしここに降りることになった場合、この後のフライトスケジュールに影響が出る可能性があるとのこと。~
